Nestled in a peaceful elevated position at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, Balcarres enjoys stunning views across Loch Linnhe to the Ardgour Hills. Despite its tranquil setting, we are just a 15-minute stroll along the lochside into Fort William town centre, where you’ll find a great selection of shops, bars, cafés and restaurants.
Our location is perfect for exploring everything the stunning Scottish Highlands have to offer, whether you’re here for spectacular scenery, walking and hiking, wildlife, sightseeing or adventure sports.
Travelling with your four-legged friends? Our self-catering apartments are dog-friendly. We’re sorry, but we can only accommodate dogs and no other pets.
We love sharing our knowledge of the area and are always happy to recommend our favourite walks, attractions, places to eat and things to see and do around Fort William.

Balcarres has 3 Guest Rooms – a King, a Double, and a Twin, which are all ensuite, in addition we have 2 well equipped self catering apartments, with their own private entrances

With just 3 guest rooms, we are able to offer a friendly personal service for our guests, chatting over breakfast about your plans for the day. With our love of the area we can offer tips on where to go and where to eat
Walks we enjoy
In each of our rooms and our self catering apartments, we provide a folder of walks which we have personally undertaken, ranging from gentle 1 mile walks to the more adventurous 10.5 mile Ben Nevis, catering for all our guests.
Eating out
Whether you want to grab a quick bite or enjoy a delicious food experience, in Fort William or slightly further afield, we can offer suggestions of where to find great fish and chip takeaways, Scottish steaks or fresh seafood restaurants, ‘high tea’ or casual dining.

Breakfast
We offer a comprehensive breakfast of porridge, cereals, juices, tea, coffee, toast, with cooked options of scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, a full cooked breakfast or freshly baked croissants, also catering for vegetarians and vegans, all cooked freshly to order. Or for the early risers we can make you a packed lunch to take with you
Self Catering Hamper
We provide a welcome hamper in our apartments, usually consisting of tea, coffee, sugar, milk, jams, butter, shortbread and croissants, so you can arrive and relax before going shopping for your stay
Vegetarian? Vegan? Gluten intolerant?
We can cater for your dietary requirements, either in our Bed and Breakfast, or the Hamper we provide in our Self Catering. We can source a number of milk alternatives, gluten-free bread and vegetarian/vegan products – just let us know before you arrive
Incredible Views
In our elevated position overlooking Loch Linnhe, we face towards the west and the Ardgour hills. Looking up the Loch towards the north, at the start of the great glen the village of Caol can be seen
with a backdrop of hills including Beinn Bhan and Sron a Choire Ghairbh. To the south heading down Loch Linnhe, Stronchreggan and Stob Coire come into view, with Morvern behind
